Photography Contest Celebrates Orrington's 230th Birthday
To celebrate the 230th anniversary of Orrington, the Town is holding a very special Photograph Contest. Original photos can be of any subject matter: historical, landscapes, seasons, wildlife, people, structures, etc. as long as the photo is taken in and of ORRINGTON, MAINE. Judges will look at composition, color, and representation of theme. New this year we are also open to two of the same photo side by side comparison, Example, using an old photo and recreating it for today just remember it must be taken in Orrington. The contest is open to all ages, all skill levels. Entries are limited to 5 per person. The best 13 photos will be published in a commemorative, collectible 2019 calendar. These calendars will be available for pre-order during Old Home Week (July 13-22), 2018 and will be for sale at the Orrington Public Library in October.
All entries must have a title. All prints must be 8” x 10” and be matted (1.5”-3” width) with a backing. An entry form must be affixed to the center back of each entry and be accompanied by a duplicate entry form. Forms are available at the Town Hall and the Orrington Public Library.
All entries will be accepted at the Orrington Public Library from June 27th- July 9th during regular business hours. All entries must be received by July 9th. The Old Home Week Committee and library assume no risk. The official judging will take place on Thursday July 12th. Winners will be contacted by telephone. Prizes will be awarded for firs ($50), second ($25) and third ($10). All 13 winners will receive a certificate and a calendar.

On Sunday, July 15, the second annual SedgeukneDUCK Regatta will be held to benefit the Orrington Historical Society's missions. Bright yellow rubber duckies can be sponsored for just $10 each. The little critters race in the Sedgeunkedunk Stream from the dam to the Johnson Mill Road tunnel to the finish line. Fans can stay for burgers and hotdogs cooked on Bob's grill! This event is sponsored by the Penobscot River Community Coalition. All proceeds were donated to the Orrington Historical Society for the restoration of the Grange Hall.
Bike Decorating Contest
Do you remember the Bicycle Decorating contests from yesteryear? Well, the Old Home Week Committee is bringing it back!
The Bicycle Decorating Contest will take place at the OHS Grange Hall on Monday, July 16 from 4-5 p.m and is open to all children 12 years and under. To enter, simply email your name, and age to firstname.lastname@example.org
What a fun way to be creative! Get your tricycles and bicycles ready! But no motorized vehicles please. Participants may decorate bikes there or bring bikes already decorated. All participants are required to wear a UL approved bicycle safety helmet.
Celebrity judges from the Elder’s Tea will review the entries in a mini-parking lot parade at 4:45 p.m. Awards will be given for Most Original, Most Patriotic, Most Beautiful and Most Colorful.
Conservation Commission Contest
The Orrington Conservation Commission will be sponsoring a contest during Old Home Week. To enter, contestants must visit any or all of the five properties the Commission oversees and retrieve a code posted at each property. Each code shall be taken to the Town library to obtain one entry into the contest. Contestants who take photographs of themselves and upload them to the Orrington Conservation Commission facebook page will receive additional entries. Win Prizes!
The five properties are:

2. Fox Island, located in Brewer Lake
3. Sedgeunkedunk Meadows picnic area at East Orrington
4. Route 15 picnic area near Orrington Corner
5. Olin Richardson Tract on Kings’ Mountain
