The Orrington Public Library is very excited to announce the newly updated Old Home Week event. Get your landscape decorator hats on because this is going to be fun! Imagine being able to bring to life one of your favorite books in your dooryard (front yard) in a wild and crazy new Home Decorating Contest... Literary Landscapes!

You can go as small or as large as your creative minds can think up. So imagine a Fairy Garden design based off the book Do Fairies Bring the Spring by Liza Gardner Walsh, or try your hand at Pet Sematary by our former resident, Stephen King. Maybe you like non-fiction.... decorate your yard with bird feeders and such based on the Birds of North America guidebook or if you are fond of the pocket Constitution, you can decorate in red, white and blue! No book is off limits nor any design idea. You just need to pick a book of your choice, decorate the door yard (front yard), a garden, front door, porch, mailbox, an old boat in your yard, trees, etc. No rules to what you decorate. (and lights can be used). You just have to be registered so your design can get a vote!

You have until Tuesday, July 9 to register.  Voting takes place between July 12-July 18. Spectators (friends, family, residents, guests... anyone!) can pick up a map of the registered homes at the Library or download from the Old Home Week and Library website and facebook pages. Then they can drive by the registered homes, and finally cast their ballot at the Public Library for their top choice.

Now... get those creative juices flowing; make this a fun, family affair. Who wouldn't want to see a Hogwarts Castle on someone's front yard here in Orrington? Maybe Game of Thrones needs to be played out in your front yard. Good luck to everyone!

There will be prizes for the top three vote-getters.

If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Bay at the Orrington Public Library,  207-825-4938.
